Caring for the environment is central to our business
Wood is naturally low in embodied carbon, a renewable resource that does not produce waste or pollution. We are committed to manufacturing solid wood flooring that stays true to nature. Caring for the environment is central to our business, and always has been. As far back as the 1930s when the company was founded, Flemming Juncker replanted trees to ensure forests were thriving - an environmentalist before his time.
In a global world it is not enough for Junckers to improve on a local level. We do our utmost to ensure legal and sustainable forestry, and consequently, sustainable flooring, more effective energy use and good working conditions. We do this through our subsidiaries, as well as by trying to influence our customers, suppliers, and wider society.
As we work towards a net zero carbon future every part of a design is scrutinised according to its environmental impact, its longevity and its ability to be recycled and disposed of without harming the atmosphere. Specifying a Junckers floor represents a sustainable choice. Our aim is to simplify the specification process by offering a flooring option with full environmental credentials.
Join our mission towards responsible use of one of the planets most precious resources: wood.
A FLOOR WITH A LONG LIFESPAN
With a lifespan of 60+ years, a Junckers floor means less waste to manage and ultimately, lower demands on natural resources. A Junckers floor also scores highly on wellbeing as our floors carry the Danish Indoor Climate label, recognised by BREEAM, and have undergone extensive degassing and odour tests to ensure there are no chemical substances in the flooring which adversely affect the air quality in the room. In addition, wood helps keep an even temperature in a room and minimises electrical static. Light coloured floor finishes such as ash, beech and Nordic oak enhance daylighting and reduce overheating.
FLOOR FOR EVERY PROJECT
For commercial, residential, sports projects and public buildings, there is a sustainable Junckers flooring solution for every project. For new buildings as well as ideal for upgrading existing buildings with an environmentally sound flooring option, Junckers offers a choice of versatile installation methods for refurbishments, including levelling batten systems which allow screeds to be omitted, popular for listed buildings and heritage projects. Junckers floors are also recommended for projects which are built for disassembly as they are easy to lift and reuse. Many a Junckers floor takes on a new lease of life when re-fitted as a reclaimed floor. A sand and seal will bring an old floor right back to pristine condition, ready for use for many more years.
SUSTAINABILITY IS A PART OF OUR DNA
Our story began in 1930, when a young Flemming Juncker united his passion for solid wood floors of the highest quality with a philosophy of sustainable forestry. Ahead of his time, Flemming’s way of collaborating with nature through responsible use of natural resources made him an environmentalist long before the term was invented. Long before global warming became an environmental crisis Junckers searched for ways to use and at the same time preserve one of our most valuable resources. By choosing Junckers solid hardwood flooring you make a positive contribution towards a more sustainable way of living whilst reducing global warming.
JUNCKERS THROUGH TIME
Caring for the climate and the environment is part of every floor we make. The sustainability agenda pushes, inspires, and questions us, whether we are rethinking production methods, making use of by-products, supporting the timber industry, or adding to our environmental credentials. Responsible forestry and sustainability have been part of our DNA since 1930.
CERTIFICATES AND BUILDING SCHEMES
Even though Junckers has always been ahead of its time in caring for the environment, having the right company policies and practices is not enough. We recognise the need to provide independent evidence to clients and designers. We have achieved independent accreditation by a number of international schemes including FSC®, PEFC and ISO 14001. We have also had independent product testing carried out for VOCs and our products' effect on indoor environment under CDPH standards and the Danish Indoor Climate Label scheme and have completed EPDs (Environmental Product Declarations) for our floors. These certificates are an important tool for designers who are designing buildings to the high environmental standards required under BREEAM, LEED, WELL and DGNB schemes.

WOOD IS NATURE'S STROKE OF PURE GENIUS
Wood is the world’s most environmentally friendly material. There are a lot of reasons why wood is great as a building material - it has the ability to absorb carbon from the air and store it, it is easy to recycle, and it can be used for a wide variety of applications.
